MaxBOOM classes are meant for persons who are interested in competing in car sound pressure levels. In MaxBOOM there is no need for prior experience in competing because the equipment and installation rules are very simple and the competitions are kept in more "stock" way by using specially tailored music track.
GENERAL RESTRICTIONS- Bass producing equipment must reside in the trunk under the rear-deck.
- The car has to be "street legal", you must be able to drive it legally to the competition and away, no "trailer queens". Only "normal" passenger cars are allowed, no vans etc.
- This rule doesn't apply to the UNL-class cars.
- Measuring is done as a 30 second average (for frequencies 10-80 hz) and the "song" is the same for everyone, the official MaxBOOM track.
- Winner from a single competition can not continue competiting in the same class and he or she must continue competiting in some of the PRO-classes.
Season 2009 classes are- MaxBOOM < 600 W
- MaxBOOM < 800 W
- MaxBOOM < 1.0k W
- MaxBOOM < 1.2 kW
- MaxBOOM < 1.5 kW
- MaxBOOM < 2.0 kW
- MaxBOOM < 2.5 kW
- MaxBOOM < 3.0 kW
- MaxBOOM < 4.0 kW
- MaxBOOM < 5.0 kW
- MaxBOOM < 6.0 kW
- MaxBOOM < 7.5 kW
- MaxBOOM Unlimited 8.0 kW
- MaxBOOM Unlimited 16.0 kW
You can use the class calculator to find out in which class you belong.
LINK to power calculator Rules for 600 W - 5.0 kW classes- One battery (37 kg or less) installed on stock location (under the hood or in the trunk if that is the stock location).
OR
- Batteries with total weight of 36 kg or less (32 kg total if batteries are AGM type) installed so, that at least one battery is installed on stock location (under the hood or in the trunk if that is the stock location).
Rules for 6.0 kW ja 7.5 kW classes- Two batteries (37 kg or less) of which other one has to be installed to stock location (under the hood or in the trunk if that is the stock location).
OR
- Batteries with total weight of 72 kg or less (64 kg total if batteries are AGM type) installed so, that at least one battery is installed on stock location (under the hood or in the trunk if that is the stock location).
- If your nominal power goes above the 7,5 kw you can use the class to find out how much is deducted from your score.
Rules for MaxBOOM Unlimited 8.0 kW class- Bass producing equipment can be installed freely behind the b-pillar.
- If your nominal power goes above the 8 kw you can use the class calculator to find out how much is deducted from your score.
- Amount and voltage of batteries unlimiteed. The effect of voltage to classification can be found out using the class calculator.
Rules for MaxBOOM Unlimited 16.0 kW class- Bass producing equipment can be installed freely behind the b-pillar.
- If your nominal power goes above the 16 kw you can use the class calculator to find out how much is deducted from your score.
- Amount and voltage of batteries unlimiteed. The effect of voltage to classification can be found out using the class calculator.
Penalties for rule violations- If box or any part of it is above the maximum height, score will be deducted one dB for each beginning 10 cm.
- EXAMPLE 1: The box is 6 cm too tall and won't fit under the rear-deck -> Score is deducted by one (1) dB.
- EXAMPLE 2: The box is 11 cm too tall and won't fit under the rear-deck -> Score is deducted by two (2) dBs.
- If dampening is too thick (maximum of 4 mm) the score will be deducted by 1 decibel for each surface that has too much dampening material.
- EXAMPLE 1: 6 mm dampening in the base of the trunk -> Score is deducted by one (1) dB.
- EXAMPLE 2: 6 mm dampening in the base of the trunk and 8 mm dampening in the both sides of the trunk -> Score is deducted by three (1+1+1=3) dB.
- If competitor knowingly cheats in the classification he or she (including equipment) will be given ban for the rest of the season.
- EXAMPLE 1: Competitor claims that he or she has connected two 12d2 subwoofer so, that voicecoils are in series and subwoofers are parallel ( 2ohm total load), but actually the coils are also connected parallel (0,5 ohm load) -> Banned for the rest of the season.
- EXAMPLE 2: Competitor claims he or she is using 15d2 subwoofer with an one ohm load, but is actually using a 15d1 subwoofer with an 0,5 ohm load -> Banned for the rest of the season.
In order to avoid rule violations, it might be a good idea to ask from some more experienced competitor or staff member to check that everything is on order prior to competition.
